A Statement of Our Openness
The United Methodist Church of Westford welcomes all people to join us in Christian fellowship as we worship the one God who loves us all.
The General Conference of the global United Methodist Church during a Special Session in St. Louis, Missouri, February 23-26, 2019, voted to retain discriminatory language regarding human sexuality in our governing document, The Discipline of the United Methodist Church. This discriminatory language specifically prohibits the performance of same gender marriages in our church and by our pastor and prohibits the ordination of self-avowed practicing homosexual clergy. Penalties against pastors who perform same gender marriages were also increased. Those actions were reviewed and affirmed by the Judicial Council, the highest human authority of the global United Methodist Church.
The United Methodist Church of Westford is against that discriminatory language.
We are working to get it changed. Failing that, we are considering ways to separate from the global United Methodist Church so that we can practice God's love without restriction.
We believe that God calls us to be disciples of Jesus, building community through service and fellowship and sharing the love of Christ with all. Please join us. We welcome all voices in our attempt to effect constructive and overdue change.
We look forward to worshiping together in Christian fellowship. All are welcome! Worship services are at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays. The United Methodist Church of Westford is handicap accessible.
The United Methodist Church of Westford is now a Reconciling Church within the Reconciling Ministries Network (https://rmnetwork.org). Working together with them, we are striving to make the United Methodist Church a place that is truly Sharing the Love of Christ with All. See our Reconciling Church page for more information.
